The Beach

The weather last week was beautiful.  Sunny and downright warm.  We invested in some shorts and sandals for Rhys.  He and Katie made good use of them at the beach on Thursday.

If you can tear your eyes away from our cutie, check out Mt. Rainier in the background.

The weather this weekend was pretty crappy.  Cloudy and rainy at times.  We went to the beach anyway.

Brrrr!

If you're wondering why Rhys looks unhappy, you must be new to this blog.  Otherwise, you know it's because he wants the phone (camera).  Of course.

It was chilly, but it's not a day at the beach without some rock throwing and some sand between your toes.

Unrelated to anything, Rhys loves salmon.  Brian makes delicious salmon and Rhys scarfed a bunch down last night and ate all of the leftovers tonight.  Rhys loves food so much (note belly in pic 1) that it's kind of fun watching him eat (until he throws stuff on the floor, then it's annoying).

First Haircut

As the title of this blog gives away, Rhys had his first haircut today.  Sitting isn't one of Rhys' best skills, so we weren't really sure what to expect.  Fortunately, the stars aligned and all was well.  We went to a fun place that had a cool car to sit in, the lady who cut his hair was great and when the little man got fussy, the iPhone was an excellent distraction.

Alright, it's cool that I'm sitting in this car, but I'm suspicious.

Not too much off the back, the ladies love my locks!

Mama, Dada - am I looking good?

Two handsome boys

In other news, Rhys has been quite the mama's boy lately.  He's been heavily favoring me which, of course, is really crummy for Brian.  The boys went out for some bonding time sans Mama and it would seem that Brian tried to win Rhys over by letting him drive.

You're my favorite now, Dada!

And, finally, I wanted to share this picture that our nanny took.  Our nanny is awesome and we absolutely love her for many reasons, one of which is that she gets the best pics of Rhys.  She's a quick draw on her phone, a skill that I have yet to master.

Hi Mama and Dada!  Sorry you're at work.  Katie and I are having a grand time!

Payroll

On Saturday, Rhys helped me prepare our nanny's paycheck.  I think maybe he was feeling guilty about giving her a mini-shiner (he threw a book that hit her) so he wanted to make sure I didn't shortchange her.

You'll notice his empty sippy cup to the left...about 5 seconds prior to this picture it was full of green smoothie.  This kids LOVES his smoothies.  He downs them in no time at all; we have to remind him to take a break and breathe.  I can't cook for sh*t so I'm very happy to at least be able to provide this nutrition-packed beverage for my little man.

Playing Hooky

Today I took the day off so Rhys and I could attend our friend Lincoln's first birthday.  (Brian is in Baltimore for a work conference).  It was such fun.

Alright, Mom, I'll be chill about you having the phone out as long as you take a good pic.

Hey Mom, that's a lot of water!

Rhys is super into basketball.  He loves to watch the guys playing on the local court and is so frustrated that he can't get the ball in the hoop.  Not a problem today!  I think I see a scholarship in his future...

Too Cute for His Own Good

Rhys' wave is pretty stinkin' cute.  It's unfortunate that he tends to give it freely to those who could care less and withhold it from those who would love to see it.  As an example, there's a semi-weird guy who often sits outside of the church across the street from our house.  I know it doesn't make me a good person, but I wouldn't have minded much if Rhys chose to ignore him on our daily walks.  But, nope.  Rhys really likes that guy and he gets some of the cutest waves.  The little old Asian ladies that beg for a wave get nothin'.  The semi-weird guy is definitely warming up to Rhys, though.  In a recent interaction, he offered Rhys half of his Butterfinger.  You won't be surprised to hear, I swiftly responded "no thanks" and we made our way to the park.
 .
The guy graciously took "no" for an answer.  We had less luck in a different situation.  Out on yet another walk, we encountered a guy who was a little rough around the edges.  Of course, Rhys waved at him and he immediately pulled a handful of wadded up ones out of his pocket and tried to give one to Rhys.  It was so weird and I did not want Rhys to take it so I was kind of bending over him, holding back his hands and the guy proceeded to stuff the dollar bill in my shirt pocket!  No, I am not kidding.  Yes, we are getting serious about buying a new house.

Perhaps, though, if this cute face waved at you, you'd feel compelled to offer money as well.
